Steak lovers; this little post is one for you! I recently went for dinner at Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecote in Marylebone. This London branch of the Paris steak institution ‘Le Relais de Venise’ is pretty much a replication of the famous 1959 Paris eatery. Think very simple French brasserie decor, mirrors on the walls, white table cloths and pretty french waitresses wearing maid-like outfits. Really the place itself is nothing special. Also when it comes to the menu, it’s pretty simple because there is no menu! All they offer is a set menu which start with a green salad with mustard vinaigrette topped with walnuts, followed by steak and frites priced at £24pp.
So why do people queue up (they don’t take reservations) to get a table in this restaurant most night? Well, because of the simplicity and because the one thing they do, they do incredibly well. I think it’s by far one of the best steak restaurants in London. The entrecote beef (cook to your taste; blue, rare, medium or well done) is given to you in two servings with crispy perfection french fries and comes with their secret sauce. That sauce, oh dear that sauce. I have no idea what’s in it (and they won’t reveal it as it’s a family secret) but it’s like a creamy mustard herb-like sauce and it’s absolutely delicious.
