When it comes to eyeshadows, I am always most drawn to golden, bronze and coppery shades because they really make my blue eyes pop! Some of my all time favourites for this already are MAC Twinks (as seen here), MAC Tempting, MAC Amber Lights (as seen here), Urban Decay Baked and Smog (as seen used here and here) and MAC Woodwinked and All That Glitters. But I recently discovered a new shade that I am totally hooked on now. Let me introduce you to MAC Antiqued!
MAC Antiqued is a rusty, coppery brown with a veluxe pearl finish eyeshadow. The texture is super smooth so it applies like a dream, it is highly pigmented, versatile and it is great for both day or night makeup looks. It’s been my go-to shade these recent winter months because it’s such a beautiful warm deep colour that even on it’s own easily creates a stunning coppery smokey eye.
Here are some pictures of a makeup look I created recently using MAC Antiqued eyeshadow and some other products I am loving at the moment.
FACE: Paula’s Choice Soft Neutral Cream Concealer, applied underneath the eyes // Burberry Fresh Glow Nude Radiance (No. 1) lightly applied onto cheekbones, forehead and bridge of the noise // Then I applied the Burberry Fresh Glow Foundation in Beige (No.26) all over the face with a Sigma Stippling brush (link) // Finished off with Bourjois Delice De Poudre Bronzing Powder (in 52) to contour the face // and MAC blush in Melba on the apples of the cheeks //
EYES: MAC Brule eyeshadow applied to the brow bone and to the tear duct // MAC Antiqued eyeshadow applied all over the lid and blended quite highly into the crease for a nice simply smokey eye // Estee Lauder Pure Color Intense Eyeliner in Blackened Black applied to the waterline // Curled my eyelashes with MAC Full Lash Curler (tutorial on how to do this here) // and applied two coats of Givency Noir Couture Volume Mascara in Black Taffeta onto my lashes – I’m loving this mascara at the moment! // and on my LIPS: AERIN’s Essential Rose Lip Balm.
I just can’t get enough of this coppery smokey eye look, and using MAC Antiqued makes it such a breeze to do! This shade is now definitely in my top 10 MAC eyeshadow list & you can check out my other top 15 favourite MAC eyeshadows here. Do you like this kind of bronze, coppery look and have you tried MAC Antiqued eyeshadow before?
With 2015 here, we all have set our new years resolutions to make it the best year yet! So have I, and while most of them are focussed on healthy living and following my dreams – others are a bit more beauty based; like take better care of my skin and hair! Because I can be a bit useless when it comes to removing my makeup, or doing treatments on my hair to keep it in a healthy condition.
So I decided to start the year off right by giving my tresses a real treat this month by using the Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment. They say that using this treatment once a week can help to nourish hair helping to strengthen it and therefore reduce damage, breakage and frizz.
How to use: Apply the Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment directly onto dry hair // Scoop 1 to 11⁄2 teaspoon into palm of hand and warm by rubbing between hands until it transforms into an oil // Distribute evenly throughout hair and scalp repeating until hair is fully saturated // Comb through and allow to penetrate for 20 minutes before rinsing and shampooing // For very damaged hair, apply gentle heat from a hairdryer for 5 minutes and/or leave treatment on overnight (be sure to place a towel over your pillowcase or wear a shower cap over your head to protect bed linens)
Having now used this for the last two weeks, I think my tired wintery hair is thanking me! My hair feels noticeably softer, shinier and healthier already. The wax turns into a lovely smelling oil when you rub it between your hands and it washed out easily, without leaving a greasy residue. Ojon Damage Reverse Restorative Hair Treatment is available in 50ml or 100ml online (link) or at your local salon/Boots store. Are you going to treat your hair to some extra loving this year too?
AERIN Beauty recently introduced new products to their Essentials Collection. The collection is described as be the ‘perfect blend of fresh, new favourites and easy, must-have classic products that women simply can’t live without’. Highlights of the AERIN Essentials Collection include: a new Rose Lip Balm, beautiful Weekend and Weekday Palettes, smooth cool gel eyeliners, nude lipglosses and much more. I previously loved AERIN’s Beauty Holiday 2012 Color Collection (as reviewed here) so I was keen to try some of their new essentials. Isn’t the AERIN packaging just stunning?
The AERIN Essentials Collection includes two, well-put-together palettes to create pretty and versatile looks. From the soft, nearly nude shades of the Weekend, to a slightly bolder palette ideal for the Weekday rush, each palette includes a Blush and Highlighter, two complementary Eyeshadows, the multi-tasking Multi Color for Lips & Cheeks, and two pretty Rose Balm Lipsticks.
In the Weekend Palette, which is the one I tried, the overall look is about natural beauty. It has warm shades of neutral browns and pale pinks. It includes two eyeshadows; Simplicity and a rich Cocoa shade to bring definition to your eyes, two cheek shades in Pretty Bronze and Golden Glow; two Rose Balm Lipstick shades in Whisper and Cabana and Multicolor for Lips & Cheeks adds a wash of natural color anywhere you need it. This is one of those palettes that is perfect for travelling. The overall look is pretty, yet pulled together.
Burberry is one of those brands that produce high quality in whatever they do, and that includes their make up. Their textures and applications are always brilliant and the packaging super luxurious. I recently got some new Burberry Beauty items and wanted to share the love.
Firstly they have their Winter Glow collection which was inspired by the soft light of winter, and this this festive make-up collection features glowing, luminescent skin with seasonal hues of oxblood and gold.
I’m loving the Oxblood Lip Mist (#214 – link) which gives a sheer illuminating finish with a hint of colour. Because Oxblood is quite a deep shade it means it’s actually not that sheer but it’s smooth, lightweight and glides on effortlessly. You can apply lightly with your fingers for a more natural look or you can also build it up for a stronger colour. Another item in the collection is the Lip Glow in Gold (#25 – link) which is limited edition. Love the gorgeous packaging and this light reflecting gloss is stunning on its on or on top of any lipstick for a pretty gold shimmery finish!
Next up is the Burberry Eyes collection which includes new mascaras, liners and brow definers. Their new mascaras are Effortless, Bold Lash and Curve Lash. I got Bold Lash in Ebony (#1 – link) which is for intensely volumised lashes. It has a creamy and highly pigmented formula and the brush easily allows you to cover every lash from root to tip to give you a long lasting rich and bold look.
Burberry Eyes also includes new eye liners and brow definers. I especially love the Effortless Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black (#1 – link). It has an ultra-thin tip applicator so you can apply this rich liquid liner with precision and the rubber grip design also helps to give you more control. There is also the Effortless Eyebrow definer (link) for creating that signature Burberry brow (think à la Cara Delevingne) and the Effortless Kohl Eyeliner (link) which is designed to outline eyes with long-lasting definition and intensity, or to use on the inner lash line for a softer look. Looks great smudged for a smokey look! It has a waterproof and highly pigmented formula and comes with a retractable tip and built-in sharpener. Available in four shades: Jet Black, Chestnut Brown, Storm Grey and Pale Grape.
What do you think of these Burberry Beauty items, spot anything you are lusting after this winter?
I thought it was about time for another product love post! As a bit of a beauty addict and through having this blog, I get exposed to a lot of different products. Some I love, and others not so much. I’ve said before that I like to use this platform for sharing positive and not negative experiences, therefore mainly blogging about things, places and recipes I enjoy and love instead of ranting about something I don’t like. So, on that note, here are a couple of products I am loving at the moment.
Urban Decay NAKED Flushed Palette // Hermes Perfume in Jour d’Hermes Absolu // Clinique Smart Custom Serum // Estee Lauder Perfectionist Youth Infusing Makeup // Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation // Paula’s Choice Soft Cream Concealer // Clinique Smart Custom Serum // Maybelline Big Eyes Volume Express Waterproof Mascara // Clinique Chubby Stick Baby Tint Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm
First up foundations – Even though I have my favourite go-to foundations, I still love trying out new ones. From recent foundations I have tried I was really impressed with the Estee Lauder Perfectionist Youth Infusing Makeup (LINK). I use shade 2C3 in Fresco, which works well for my colouring. Perfectionist Foundation has a satin finish, neither too greasy/dewy or matte. It has a super silky (because it’s infused with an age-defying serum to reduce the look of lines) texture which makes it a dream to apply and blend. The coverage is more light to medium, but is easily buildable if you prefer full cover. When wearing this foundation, I feel it gives my face a nice glow and it lasts well throughout the day. It’s kind of like my skin but better because it looks natural but gives me that extra cover to give me a ‘perfectionist’ look!
Now, Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation is an ‘oldie’ but a goodie. I’ve always been a fan of this foundation but recently recovered my love for it after having not used it for a while. You can read my old review on the blog HERE. I really think this is one of my favourite drugstore foundations and for £10.99 it really is a bargain!
The Urban Decay Naked FLUSHED Palette (£22 LINK). This little beauty contains a silky bronzer, highlighter and blusher designed to add a radiant glow to all skin types. You can use the pressed powders individually or blend them together depending on the effect you want. The UD Naked Flushed Palette is packaged neatly in a sleek case with an easy-open yet secure magnetic closure and full compact mirror; perfect for touch-ups. It’s so handy to have a compact with all these three products in one, it’s my go-to travel face palette at the moment.
Urban Decay Naked FLUSHED comes in four shades; Naked (medium pink), Streak (medium peach), Native (light pink) and Strip (dusty mauve). I have the shade Native and I love its super pigmented – so go easy on this one – matte pink blush, illuminating bronzer and shimmery highlighter. The highlighter is fab to enhance your facial features like cheekbones, brow bone and even cupids bow.
Jour d’Hermès Absolu Perfume (LINK) – This fragrance is just divine. There’s something I love about the big bold bottle and it just smells so sophisticated and expensive. Jour d’Hermès Absolu is all about ‘expressing the essence of femininity with flowers and nothing but flowers’. It has notes of Gardenia, Sambac Jasmine and Apricot Flower. It’s floral but smooth, sensual and complex at the same time. I am wearing it day and night and just can’t get enough of it. Jour d`Hermes Absolu is available as 30, 50 and 85ml EDP
Paula’s Choice Soft Cream Concealer – I’ve been enjoying using this creamy product. It provides medium to full coverage without caking or looking dry. Its smooth, easy to blend formula covers dark circles, redness and minor imperfections. Comes in two shades; Soft Ivory and Soft Neutral (I use the latter) and is £12.95 per compact (LINK).
Clinique Smart Custom Serum (LINK) - I’ve been applying this twice a day (morning and evening) and really like how it makes my skin look and feel. Clinique says “Clinique Smart Smart Custom-Repair Serum contains calming ingredients that help deliver targeted repair – as needed, where needed. Recommended for all skin types, ages, and ethnicities, it visibly addresses uneven skintone, lines, and wrinkles for visibly firmer, more radiant, and more youthful-looking skin”. After applying it my face feels super soft and my makeup also applies more smoothly.
Clinique Chubby Stick Baby Tint Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm (LINK) – I am already a big fan of the Clinique Chubby Sticks (normal and intense version) so was intrigued when I learned they now also had a baby tint range. What this means? “A bit of colour but a hefty helping of moisture”. The Clinique Baby Tint Chubby Stucks comes as a collection of 4 sheer shades; Poppin Poppy (orange), Coming up Rosie (red), Budding Blossom (pink) and Flowering Freesia (violet). Because these sheer sticks ‘bloom’ on contact with your lips to bring out your natural lip tone – which is different for everyone – I do recommend you test the shades before purchasing since there’s no easy way to tell what the colours will actually turn out like until you try them. I have Poppin Poppy and Coming up Rosie and love the bright but sheer effect they give. Plus they are they are infused with Vitamin C, Shea Butter, Mango Seed Butter and Jojoba Seed Oil, for juicy, soft and supple lips.
Maybelline Big Eyes Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara – Been loving this drugstore Mascara. Maybelline is known for their fab mascaras and this is another winner in my books. Get this if you want the look of false lashes without the time-consuming, gluey process of the real thing ;) Also handy is that it has a duel-sided component; one brush for the upper lashes and one for the lower lashes. It quickly lengthens and thickens my lashes for dramatic results and doesn’t leave any lumps. I find when I use this mascara my eyes just look so open and bright and it lasts all day, and night without flaking! Great value product at only £8.99 (LINK)
A little tip for you on how to apply mascara to your bottom lashes: after applying mascara to your top lashes, look straight ahead and hold your mascara horizontally across your bottom lashes and blink! (if necessary repeat a couple of times across your lash line) I find this works perfectly for me every time!
Have you tried any of these products before or are now curious to?
