Learn the rules like a pro..

Hello everyone! It’s that time of the week again already. This month has just flown by for me, and I can’t believe it’s almost the end of January which means I have ‘survived’ dry January, woop woop! I haven’t found it too hard if I am honest. It has been lovely giving my body a break from alcohol for a few weeks and focussing on being healthy and I have to say I do love the feeling of not waking up with a hangover on the weekends. You just get so much more done and just get up early and feel super fresh! This Saturday for example I biked to Putney from NW6, then walked with a girlfriend from Putney to Barnes and back along the river, enjoyed a delicious brunch at Brew (review to follow) – and this was all before midday! I definitely recommend trying dry January (or pick any other month if you prefer that) some time. Anyway, now time for some quick mid-week motivation….

“Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.” – Pablo Picasso. Really like this quote, it reminds me that knowledge is power and to always keep learning in life! Happy Hump Day :)

Just take the first step

Hello. I hope you’re all having a good week? On Sunday afternoon when I was catching up with some friends we ended up talking about happiness and the importance of living for the moment. I think it being January (meaning new year & fresh start and all that) sparked it off. My friend said that he was only going focus on the here and now this year, and trying not to plan too far ahead. Do what makes you happy now, do what feels good now and don’t worry too much about the long term plan or outcome. You will probably be a lot happier that way and things will just fall into place as they are meant to.  I think he had a good point!

Take the first step

“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” - Martin Luther King.

This quote is a great reminder for me because I can be a bit of a perfectionist, and I tend to try to get everything fairly well planned, especially before starting something new. So maybe I need to keep telling myself that I don’t always have to know what’s coming after the next step. Maybe it’s about about having faith, believing in yourself and taking things step by step, learning from my experiences and trusting that the big picture will manifest eventually. I can still have goals, but the road to the goal has to be kept open for whatever shows up on the way there and not to be afraid of the future or failure. The journey should be half the fun right? Happy Hump Day everyone!

When the answer is no..

Hello everyone! It’s Hump Day again so time for some midweek inspiration. Like a lot of people, I sometimes struggle dealing with rejection – so the quote ‘Trust that when the answer is no, there’s a better yes down the road’ is something I am really trying to keep in my head at the moment.

“You don’t need anyone’s affection or approval in order to be good enough. When someone rejects or abandons or judges you, it isn’t actually about you. It’s about them and their own insecurities, limitations, and needs, and you don’t have to internalize that. Your worth isn’t contingent upon other people’s acceptance of you — it’s something inherent. You exist, and therefore, you matter. You’re allowed to voice your thoughts and feelings. You’re allowed to assert your needs and take up space. You’re allowed to hold onto the truth that who you are is exactly enough. And you’re allowed to remove anyone from your life who makes you feel otherwise.” Daniell Koepke

So whenever I feel sad or rejected I need to remember to love who I am  inside and out, and keep pushing forward. No one else should have the power to make you feel small and rejected unless you give them that power. “Rejection doesn’t mean you aren’t good enough; it means the other person failed to notice what you have to offer”. I hope these quotes give you a nice confidence boost today and Happy Hump Day!

Of course you can have it all..

I am back in London today after a lovely Christmas in the Netherlands with my family. Sorry for the radio silence on the blog during that time, but I decided to take a bit of a time-out (even from blogging) and just relax. Plus I’ve had this terrible cold for a week now, which means my brain feels like mush. Here some instagram pictures from my week in the homeland.

Christmas decorations and chilling by the Christmas tree // Me and my little nephew on Christmas Day. He’s grown so much and he looooves walking these days (with a helping hand that is). Oh and doesn’t he look adorable in his little (Primark) Christmas jumper I got him? I am wearing my ZARA cape dress as seen here // ‘Uitwaaien’ on the beach – a fresh walk by the sea on Christmas day before the food marathon began. Still  my favourite place on the planet // To start of the Christmas feast I made mulled wine (recipe here) and baked camembert with cranberry sauce and walnuts (based on this recipe).  Yummmmm!!

On the 27th I woke up and felt like a little kid again, because it had snowed overnight! It was only a small amount of snow, but still so pretty :) // Brrrr it’s getting cold outside! Heading out in the snowy weather in my new dark blue Check Faux Fur Trim Duffle Coat – I love it so much and guess what, it’s now on sale (LINK) for only £25! // I went to Maastricht with my parents for a night in the south of the Netherlands. A great city for shopping and food // Almost NYE in Holland means time for Oliebollen (recipe here). Such unhealthy treats but to me they scream New Years Eve and if I am at home around this time of the year I just have to indulge in one!
