MY RECENT PINS

On Sunday the 86th Academy Awards took place once again in Los Angeles, and all eyes were on the stars red carpet looks at this big time Hollywood event. Here are my pics for the 2014 Oscars best dressed (and a couple of worst dressed).
My ultimate favourite was definitely Kate Hudson! As soon as I saw this dress I was in love. Kate is such a beautiful woman and I adore her fashion style. This Atelier Versace gown fits her like a glove and the plunging neckline is super sexy & the subtle beading with the draped fabric cape makes it red carpet perfection // The “12 Years a Slave” Lupita Nyong’o stood out in a stunning pale blue Prada dress! She looked like a modern day Cinderella and just glowed in the flowing gown. When asked about the stunning dress, she replied: “I wanted to wear blue because blue reminds me of Nairobi” // Jennifer Lawrence once wowed in a red peplum Dior Couture gown. I love how she accessorised her dress with a back-drop diamond necklace. I think this dress suited her new short hair look very well too!
Charlize Theron in a sweeping black Dior dress. Simple but very elegant and loved the clear straps with the low back // Sandra Bullock looked like Hollywood Royalty in a navy blue Alexander McQueen gown // Cate Blanchett dazzled in her favourite designer Armani with a nude gown with silver beaded detail. When I first saw pictures of this dress I didn’t love it but it ended up growing on me and when I saw it on TV (instead of photo) I think it was just a beautiful sparkling gown and perfect for the Oscars // Emma Watson looked stunning in a black shimmering semi-sheer Vera Wang dress. I’ve read a lot of negative comments about her look but I personally just really liked this outfit, she looks modern, young but classic and grown-up at the same time.
Best dressed couples? Actor Matthew McConaughey, who won the Best Actor Oscar for his movie Dallas Buyers Club, made a superb entry with his stunning and gorgeous wife Camila Alves. Matthew opted for a black and white Dolce&Gabbana tuxedo while his model wife wore a beautiful Gabriela Cadena gown, Charlotte Olympia shoes, and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. One word to describe Camila Alves at the Oscars 2014 – Divine! // Pregnant Olivia Wilde looked sophisticated in a black Valentino gown and chic updo. Jason Sudeikis was best dressed man for me this year – loved his navy Prada suit!
Penelope rarely makes a fashion misstep but her powder pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture silk gown was not a winning look for me! I didn’t like the toga-like fit and there was so much fabric at the back making it really unflattering // The “Wolf of Wall Street” actress Margot Robbie looks a bit vampish in this black gown. I did actually really like the big black bow on the back and from other angles the dress is more flattering but I think with the very dark hair, heavy make up and dark lips it’s a bit too overpowering. A shame, I would have loved to have seen her in something bright or sparkling because she’s so stunning. I just don’t think this dress did much for her //Lady Gaga in Versace. I think the silver figure-hugging dress wasn’t that bad but it’s the combination with the lilac long scarf and hair & makeup styling // Anna Kendrick in J Mendel. With its floral patterned sheer detail, asymmetrical neckline, sporty sleeveless cut and thigh-high slit, this dress just had too much going on.
What did you think of the stars on the Oscars 2014 Red Carpet this year?
Award Season officially kicked off with the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night in Los Angeles. So who ruled the red carpet this year? Here are my (personal) picks for the 2014 Golden Globes best and worst dressed.
Amber Heard in a navy blue one shouldered Versace gown split to the thigh with her hair backcombed into an big undo // Jennifer Lawrence dazzled in a strapless white Dior gown with black band detail and diamond jewellery – think it really suited her new short hair look and she just can’t do much wrong in my eyes at the moment, adore this girl! // Kate Beckinsale looked impeccable in a sparkly Zuhair Murad fishtail gown // Simple but sexy in a deep plunging two toned gown by Valentino.
Taylor Swift looked very much old Hollywood glamorous in a redish pink Carolina Herrera gown with a contrast black top // Emma Roberts looked lovely in this mermaid-shaped, black Lanvin gown and I loved the splash of colour from the turquoise drop earrings // Cate Blanchett in a stunning black lace Valentino gown that had some serious plunging backless detail – amazing // Naomi Watts showed off her fantastic shape in a slinky Tom Ford champagne gown with a chunky gold neck detail which crossed over at the back.
Other best dressed worthy mentions would have to be: Mila Kunis in a sequinned Gucci gown // Lupita Nyong’o in a beautiful red caped Ralph Lauren gown // Very pregnant Olivia Wilde sported in a clinging sequin green Gucci number – she rocked that bump // Sofia Vergara in a very full Zac Posen gown but especially loved her chunky turquoise statement necklace!
Tina Fey in a strapless black Carolina Herrera gown featuring a busy dark red floral print. Nice dress, awful print // Hayden Panettiere in a geometric black and white Tom Ford gown which she admitted was partly chosen for comfort – just didn’t like the dress & didn’t like the slicked back hair either, sorry! // Lena Dunham went for bold in a canary yellow Zac Posen frock. As much as I love it that Lena embraces her curvy shape I think this dress didn’t do her figure a lot of favours and maybe she would have been better of in something less, well yellow….// Heidi Klum in a black and white Marchesa gown. The dress isn’t great but the worst styling choice for me really was the choker style necklace with it, too much and didn’t suit the dress.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good bow dress (think Gwyneth in Prada at the Venice Film Festival) but Edie Falco should have left this bow dress underneath the christmas tree, she looks like one giant present and the lose satin fit is not very flattering // I love Zooey Deschanel and her usually quirky style but wasn’t feeling her Oscar De La Renta gown and matching heels // Zoe Saldana in a unusual black and white clashing patterned Prabal Gurung dress with pink heels – too much going on and not very red carpet // Sandra in a pink, black and blue Prabal Gurung dress. This was a hard one, a lot of people seemed to love her look and OK it’s not hideous but just think she could have looked so much better in something slinky and glamorous!
Other worst dressed worthy mentions: Julia Roberts seemed to be wearing a white shirt underneath her strapless black Dolce & Gabbana gown? Hmmm a bit too secretary like and not Hollywood Red Carpet enough for me // Paula Patton in a white Stephane Rolland dress with a whole lot of ruffles!
S0 do you agree with my picks or who would you say were your 2014 Golden Globes best and worst dressed?
The Christmas Party season is among us again which means the perfect excuse to get all glammed up! I actually had my office Christmas party a few days ago but we had an 80s themed dress-up party so this meant not much glamour for me and more big hair, lots of make up and crazy outfits! Anyway, I still love collecting Christmas Party Hair and Makeup Inspiration via Pinterest (follow me here) for the festive season.
So have you got a Christmas party coming up, a big night out, or just festive drinks with friends? Well for some party inspiration, here are some looks I am loving at the moment!
Beauty: Long lashes with a glossy or matte red lip // bronze smokey eyes à la Cara // bold graphic winged eyeliner for a more edgy look // love this soft golden eyeshadow as seen on Emily Blunt // Burgundy or plum statement lip // Hollywood glamorous like Diana Kruger // Gold and silver eyes // Or go for a real standout look like Kate Moss with a gold painted star on your eye!
Hair: Halo braids, a half up, half down twist hairstyle like Lauren Conrad which is simple but so pretty // Simple bun with statement (pearl) pins for an elegant look as seen on Chanel runway // Braided bun // Soft long waves created with straightener (video tutorial here) // Sleek and super chic Hollywood waves // Fun high ponytail – loving this look paired with a statement necklace // A uber-glamorous super-sized bun à la Rosie // Cute twisted braided up-do.
Have you planned your Christmas or New Years party look yet?
As part of her role as Ambassador for BOSS JOUR Pour Femme Gwyneth Paltrow recently opened up about her love for the festive seasons and talked all things Christmas; including food, present shopping and styling tips!
Speaking about her Christmas Day rituals Gwyneth Paltrow said: ‘Our Christmas rituals are pretty much the same every year; it’s basically trying to keep the children in bed until at least 7am! Father Christmas always leaves a stocking at the end of their bed, which is great because then they wake up and they have lots of little bits to unwrap. Then they wake us up and they just go to town on the present opening. I do a lot of the cooking before Christmas but then I usually spend a lot of Christmas cooking too. All the smells, all of the mulled wine, all of the trimmings for the turkey. We like to have all the family around. A very traditional Christmas.’
Self-confessed ‘planner’ Gwyneth says she begins her Christmas shopping at least 2 months before because she likes to get things personalised but also admits that ‘men are really hard to shop for, much harder than women. Probably my husband, my brother, my husband’s brothers – they’re usually the hardest.’
A popular Christmas present for friends or family is a fragrance and this is also a regular item on Gwyneth’s Christmas shopping list ‘I think it’s nice to buy a fragrance that they’ve never tried, or buy them their favourite. It’s a luxury gift, it’s personal and it’s always wonderful to get perfume. I think it’s a nice time to try something new. But for people who are really married to their scent it’s also a really good time to give them that.’
Gwyneth does most of the cooking for the Christmas festivities and even though Gwyneth is well known for her uber-healthy eating habits, it is nice to see she also loves indulging at Christmas time ‘our Christmas dinner is very traditional – turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, pecan pie.
When it comes to her favourite Christmas party outfit style queen Gwyneth says ‘I always feel like I end up wearing something black. I have a number of black jumpsuits that are always very easy because then you don’t have to think about much else’ and she thinks ‘it’s a good idea to have a red lip at Christmas but I’m not very good at doing that so I usually just end up looking very natural.’
Gwyneth remains one of my top one of my favourite style/celeb crushes and as always she looks flawless in this campaign video for BOSS Jour Pour Femme. I personally really like both the BOSS Pour Femme fragrances. You can read my original reviews of BOSS Nuit here and BOSS Jour here.
Boss Jour Pour Femme is available in stores nationwide, priced from £35 (link) or perhaps a good present idea this Christmas could be the gift set which is available from Boots.com here. Have you tried one of the BOSS Pour Femme Fragrances yet?

Just love this recent red carpet look by Scarlett Johansson at the premiere of her new movie, Under The Skin, this week at the 70th Annual Venice International Film Festival.
I think she looks stunning and not to mention incredibly sexy in in this back off-the-sholder Versace gown. She really shows that all you needs sometimes is a simple black dress with some sequin detailing on the arms and lots of va-va-voom cleavage to rock a red carpet! Her hair and makeup was classic and elegant but the multi-coloured Bvlgari statement necklace kept the look very modern.
This is her and her (handsome) boyfriend Romain Dauriac arriving at the Palazza del Cinema. Oh and I loooooove the sunglasses Scarlett is wearing here, I need to find out which ones they are! Any ideas?
