Mazi has been one of my favourite spots in Notting Hill for quite some time now so it’s terrible really that I haven’t even featured it on here! I recently visited this lovely greek restaurant again when my parents were in town so took some quick snap shots of our dinner to show you. Mazi has been around since 2012 and is located in one of the cutest areas in Notting Hill, tucked away behind Notting Hill Gate in Hillgate Village; where the streets are filled with cute little colourful houses. An instagramers dream let me tell you ;)
However, Mazi isn’t your traditional greek restaurant because they say they take inspiration from the traditional greek table but reinvent them with a modern twist. I fell in love with this hidden gem years ago and have been back many times since. Every dish is delicious, the interior and vibe has a lovely relaxed cosy feel (and they have an amazing back courtyard in summer where you can eat al fresco!) and the service is always friendly and efficient.
Once seated the staff will kick you off with serving you a complimentary small but punchy shot of Tsipouro (which is a greek spirit made from grape reduction, similar to an italian grappa). I am not usually one for shots, but a quick pre-dinner one to get you in the mood for a fantastic evening..why not?! :)
The dishes are made for sharing and I always start off with their “jars”. My two favourites are the Spicy Tiropita with broken filo pastry, leeks and chillies, the grilled aubergine (duh!) with soy and thyme honey.
Then have fun ordering a selection of of dishes from their Salads, Hot Plates and Signature Dishes. Pretty much everything is a winner at this place but some of my favourite choices on the menu are; Greek Salad with cherry tomatoes and small barley rusks, Grandmama’s Meatballs, handmade crisps,Courgette Cakes, cucumber and mint dip.Grilled Calamari, black eyed beans, spinach and citrus juice and the Crispy Lamb Belly, miso aubergine, chickpea and tahini paste (so so good).
This lamb belly is seriously incredible! I also often have the Truffle Chicken with wild mushrooms which is one of their signature dishes. Dessert wise this time we shared the Portokalopita, filo cake with orange and cardamom and Greek coffee ice cream but I also recommend the loukoumades (which are greek style donuts) drizzled with lavender honey and a hefty dollop of chocolate sorbet! Finish off with a greek coffee and you will go home full and happy.
I especially love Mazzi on a spring/summer’s day for lunch or dinner, but even in winter this place is a delight. The vibrant buzz, light decor and delicious food will transport you away to a wonderful little piece of greece in West London! Oh and they take bookings which always is such a winner in my books. If you haven’t been to Mazi yet, I’d say add it to your list. For reservations or enquiries, you can contact them via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 020 7229 3794
